Two nights can make quite a difference. Caitlin Clark was brilliant Tuesday against the Minnesota Lynx, finishing with 27 points, nine assists and seven rebounds in a convincing Indiana Fever victory.
Thursday was almost the complete opposite.
Clark finished with only two points on 1-of-12 shooting as Minnesota hammered Indiana, 86-66, at Target Center in the final game of the WNBA regular season. She missed all seven of her 3-point attempts and added four rebounds and three assists in 18 minutes. It was a stunning finish to an otherwise remarkable regular season.
Caitlin Clark and Fever overwhelmed early
The game was essentially decided by halftime. Minnesota scored 32 points in the first quarter and another 30 in the second, building a 62-32 advantage.
Indiana never recovered.
Kayla McBride led Minnesota with 22 points, while Natasha Howard added 21. Courtney Williams finished with nine points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.
Kelsey Mitchell was Indiana's leading scorer with 10 points.
Clark entered the night with a chance to become the first player in WNBA history to record 900 points and 300 assists in a single season. She needed 11 points to reach 900.
Instead, the milestone will have to wait for another season. More important is what Thursday means for Indiana.
Postseason has arrived
The Fever finished 28-16 and dropped to the No. 6 seed in the WNBA playoffs.

The Lynx erased much of that good feeling Thursday.

The good news for Indiana is that playoff basketball provides an immediate reset. Clark has already demonstrated how quickly one performance can change.
The Fever will need another change beginning Sunday.
