C.J. Stroud denying Pro Bowl invite saves him from further public scrutiny

Despite having a good regular season, C.J. Stroud’s reputation as a franchise quarterback has taken a massive hit after his disappointing postseason performances for the Houston Texans against the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers. 

According to Aaron Wilson, C.J. Stroud declined an invitation to attend the Pro Bowl “as he prepares for next season.” 

Stroud denying his invite is a positive development for the Texans

It’s unclear what type of reception Stroud would get if he accepted the invite, but if social media is any indication, it wouldn’t have been pretty. Fans and outlets alike have taken turns roasting Stroud while also microanalyzing his current and previous statements.

Next season is the most important one of his career, as he’ll look to get a massive contract either with the Texans or with another team in desperate need of a quarterback. If he fails to impress, he could receive much less money than his competitors or struggle to entice suitors entirely. C.J. Stroud’s breakout rookie season was three years ago, and while people are quick to forget that, it’s undeniable that the NFL is based on results, and Stroud didn’t deliver good ones in the playoffs.

While it’s too early to look into Stroud’s offseason, his first action being rejecting a competitively meaningless game in favor of preparation is a step in the right direction for a man who has turned into one of the most clowned-on players in the league seemingly overnight.
