Malcolm Brogdon was playing preseason basketball for the New York Knicks. But he won't play in the regular season.
The Milwaukee Bucks' former Rookie of the Year announced his stunning retirement from the NBA on Wednesday in a statement.
"Today, I officially begin my transition out of my basketball career," Brogdon wrote. "I have proudly given my mind, body and spirit to the game over the last few decades. With the many sacrifices it took to get here, I have received many rewards. I am deeply grateful to have arrived to this point on my own terms and now to be able to reap the benefits of my career with my family and friends. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to all who have had a place in my journey."

Brogdon just signed with the Knicks this offseason as a free agent after one season with the Washington Wizards, but the 32-year old guard has chosen to hang up his high tops instead.
The gritty Brogdon came to the NBA in 2016 as the No. 36 pick of the draft out of Virginia.
He then won Rookie of the Year with the Bucks in his first of three seasons in Milwaukee.
Brogdon played his next three years with the Pacers, peaking in 2020-21 when he averaged 21.2 points and 5.9 assists per game.
In 2022-23, Brogdon played his lone season with the Boston Celtics and won the Sixth Man of the Year award.
He suited up for the Portland Trail Blazers in 2023-24, then was limited by injuries to just 24 games with the Wizards last season.
Brogdon ends up playing 493 NBA games. He averaged 15.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 0.8 steals per game while shooting 38.8% from 3-point range and 87.4% from the foul line.
It's not yet clear where Brogdon goes from here, but this is a guy whose nickname was The President. He's surely got a bright future ahead of him.
