Tigers could turn to Braves' star as potential Gleyber Torres replacement

The Detroit Tigers are coming up on an important offseason. They are at risk of losing Gleyber Torres in free agency after a solid season with the club.

Tores played in 145 regular-season games with Detroit this season, hitting .256/.358/.387 with 16 home runs and 74 runs batted in. He primarily hit in the two-hole for Detroit and played well at second base defensively.

He should see an uptick in interest this offseason. He will be the top second baseman on the open market, and could parlay that into getting a much bigger deal than he is expecting.

Outside of Torres, there are other options the Tigers could target. Willi Castro will be a free agent alongside Amed Rosario. However, Sports Illustrated's Brooks Crew points to a player who is still awaiting his team's decision on whether they will pick up his option or not.

"If Torres does, in fact, pick another squad, [Ozzie] Albies could slot in his place, without sacrificing too much production. Torres slashed better than Albies, hitting .256 with a .745 OPS, but the scoring metrics are similar; both players had 16 home runs and 74 RBIs. While Albies no longer has the glove he once had, it's likely still an upgrade compared to Torres."

If the Atlanta Braves decide to move on from Albies, he could be a great fit for Detroit. He is viewed as a better defensive option than Torres, with the two providing very similar stats at the plate.
