The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost 24-9 to the Detroit Lions but in a crushing blow to Josh Grizzard's defense, might have lost Mike Evans for most of the year.
In the second quarter, Baker Mayfield went deep for Evans, who lunged and caught the ball, but fell hard, as his head hit the turf, and he was also holding his shoulder and was quickly ruled out of the game.
Given the injuries already at the receiver position, the Buccaneers can ill-afford to have Evans miss time, but for head coach Todd Bowles, Mike's going to miss a lot.
“He has a broken clavicle [collarbone], and he’ll be out mostly towards the end of the year, see what happens,” Bowles said. “But he broke it.”
Buccaneers offense dealt harsh reality
Losing Evans for most of the season is a crushing blow for Grizzard's offense and with Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan and Bucky Irving still out, Baker's weapons are beginning to look a little thin.
Emeka Egbuka in his return caught four balls for 58 yards, but the offense didn't get its mojo working and as such, struggled all game.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport posted on X that if Evans' injury is a "regular" one, his return would come around the middle of December, which will give the Buccaneers a big weapon just before the playoffs begin, providing they make it.
Still, it looks like the streak of 1,000-yard seasons will be over, but right now, no one is interested in that. We want to make sure Evans is in good spirits after what was a brutal game for the Buccaneers both on and off the field.
