Bruce Pearl turns heads with profanity-laden remarks after Auburn loss

1 hour ago 3

Bruce Pearl has always been known for being animated. It's part of the former coach's personality, but one exchange on Thursday seems to carry a different tone.

Since stepping away from Auburn before the start of the season, Pearl has never really let go of the Tigers. While most coaches would walk away and never turn back, it seems like he has taken on the role of helicopter parent with his son, Steven, now his successor. The entire dynamic got worse during Auburn's first-round exit at the hands of Tennessee in the SEC Tournament.

Pearl was caught on camera in the stand heckling an unknown person by using profanity. He yelled out, "That's some bull---" twice during the incident. Nobody knows what set him off, but clearly Pearl wasn't happy. But it also begs the question: At what point does professionalism matter?

After ditching his role at Auburn for his son to pick up the pieces, Pearl signed on with TNT as an analyst to cover March Madness. Shouldn't that come with ethics? Charles Barkley or Kenny Smith wouldn't be screaming from the stands regardless of who's involved — kin or not.

Outside this one display of over-driven emotions, Pearl also advocated for then-undefeated Miami (OH) to be left out of the NCAA Tournament in favor of Auburn, which had two losses above .500 at the time. This all goes back to professionalism.

Pearl might be rooting for his son to advance in the SEC Tournament because he knows what's at stake. However, he's also representing a broadcast partner of March Madness and shouldn't come off as a super fan in the stands.
