The Cleveland Browns are one of the hardest teams to get a read on ahead of the 2026 NFL season.
The team had a horrendous 2025 season, but the hope was that they'd be able to reload this offseason and keep their stout defense intact. The problem is, while the Browns did add some talent this offseason, the quarterback position is still a massive question.
Shedeur Sanders started over the final part of the season last year and didn't exactly impress that much. However, it's hard to be too critical of Sanders, considering he was a rookie and had one of the worst supporting casts in the league. Which is what brings us to today.
Browns still thought to have bottom-of-league supporting cast
Ralph Vacchiano of FOX Sports recently ranked each team's offense. To no surprise, the Browns came in near the bottom, at No. 31. According to Vacchiano, only the Miami Dolphins have a worse group of playmakers.
Vacchiano offered the following:
It’s hard to find a worse offensive line situation in the league, which is horrible news for a team with big questions at QB. The Browns are likely to have four new starters on the line, including first-round LT Spencer Fano, and may need most of the season to develop any consistency. And it’s not like they’re overflowing with weapons who can make up for their line deficiencies. Their best is probably wideout Jerry Jeudy, who is quite the enigma. He was dazzling in 2024 (90-1,229-4) but a disaster last year (50-602-2, 47.2% catch rate).
It's interesting to see the Browns in this position, because just a couple of seasons ago, the team was considered to have a great offensive line. Now, the unit is questionable at best, which is not ideal when you also have a questionable quarterback room.
At receiver, the Browns are clearly hoping Jerry Jeudy bounces back in a big way. Other than Jeudy, the Browns will be relying on two rookies to start, which is also a risky proposition.
The bright spots are running back Quinshon Judkins and tight end Harold Fannin. However, those two guys and Jeudy won't make up for bad quarterback play or a porous o-line. It's also fair to question if Todd Monken is as good an offensive coach as Kevin Stefanski.
We know the Browns' defense will be solid. There are plenty of playmakers on that side of the ball to keep the Browns in several games. However, as we saw last year, even an elite defense won't translate to many wins if the offense is inept.
