Browns' QB saga taking an odd twist

1 hour ago 3

Whoever will be the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback in 2026 will likely know they are on borrowed time...unless they play extremely well.

Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders, and Dillon Gabriel are the quarterbacks who will be looking to stake their claim in Todd Monken's offense in 2026.

But if you thought that this trio would be all the competition, you're wrong.

General manager Andrew Berry stated that any other quarterback the franchise brings in would be expected to compete for the starting job.

It is worth noting that Cleveland has Alabama's Ty Simpson as a 30 visit.

"In terms of them competing for the starting job, anyone we bring in, we want to compete," Berry said via Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN. "But a large part of that will be, for any young player, will depend on their acclimation to the NFL and their readiness to play, and that's really done on a case-by-case basis."

Browns to be must-watch this offseason

The fact that the Browns appear to be open to bringing in another quarterback tells you all you need to know about what the franchise thinks of the room right now.

Sanders and Gabriel are entering just their second offseason, and Watson hasn't played since 2024 after multiple Achilles injuries.

One would think the franchise wants to see how Sanders and Gabriel progress, but if they are intent on bringing in another player to compete, that likely tells you they aren't sold on either.

Monken is tasked with leading this team out of the NFL doldrums, but to do that, he's got to figure out who his quarterback is.

And that, my friends, appears to be no easy task.
