Browns predicted to replace Dillon Gabriel, Shedeur Sanders with new quarterback in 2026

The Cleveland Browns have been juggling quarterbacks since the start of the 2025 season.

It began with veteran Joe Flacco until he was benched and then traded in favor of rookie Dillon Gabriel. The former Oregon Duck hasn't impressed in his handful of starts, though, with fans and analysts alike clamoring for the Browns' other rookie, Shedeur Sanders.

With Cleveland currently boasting one of the NFL's worst records and two first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, it's becoming increasingly likely that the Browns will be trying to find themselves a new signal caller in next April's draft.

Browns predicted to select Alabama's Ty Simpson second overall in mock draft

In a recent mock draft from CBS Sports, Ryan Wilson has the Browns trading up to second overall with the Tennessee Titans to select Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson.

"Simpson is a big-armed pocket passer who plays with composure and outstanding mental processing both before and after the snap," wrote Wilson.

"He plays with an aggressive confidence and excels at navigating muddy pockets, throwing accurately to all three levels and ripping tight-window throws with anticipation. Simpson is athletic enough to buy time with his legs to extend plays and move the sticks."

Simpson could be the answer the Browns have been looking for as their franchise quarterback, and it would be the first time they select a triggerman in the first round since Baker Mayfield in 2018.

The Alabama quarterback has been impressive throughout the 2025 college football season, leading Alabama to a 7-1 record atop the SEC.

Simpson has racked up some gaudy numbers, completing 67.8% of his passes for 2184 yards, along with 11 touchdowns and only one interception.

Cleveland wouldn't even necessarily have to rush Simpson into the starting lineup, allowing Gabriel or Sanders to start the season while the 22-year-old develops.
