Browns' Myles Garrett trade rumors take a concerning turn amid new Todd Monken comment

The Cleveland Browns are once again dealing with Myles Garrett trade rumors. Last offseason, there were plenty of rumors about a possible trade since Garrett was in a contract year.

But he signed a massive extension and stuck with the team. Following his 23-sack 2025 season, Garrett is back in trade rumors, and they're more pervasive than ever.

On June 1, a key date in the Garrett trade rumors, Mark Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com shared a comment from head coach Todd Monken that has made the Garrett trade rumors take a concerning turn towards a possible deal.

Todd Monken's comment is concerning addition to Myles Garrett trade rumors

"I was never assured of anything when I took the job," Monken said in response to a question about being "given a guarantee that Myles Garrett would be on the team when he took over the job," according to Cabot.

This is a significant comment from Monken, as it more than opens the door to a potential Garrett trade, as he's not shutting down the rumors at all.

Garrett is the best player on the Browns, the organizations decision on his future with the team is something that absolutely should be shared with the head coach.

But Monken's comment seems to point towards the Browns having no guarantee that Garrett would be on the team in 2026 for Monken's first year as head coach.

This answer doesn't need a lot of analysis to see that a Garrett trade is very much in play for the Browns amid the mounting rumors.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams are two teams strongly linked to Garrett, and based on this comment from Monken, the door is wide open to a deal.

Since Monken wasn't given a guarantee that Garrett would be on the team, there should be no guarantee that Garrett will not be traded this offseason, considering all of the rumors picking up steam lately.

Nothing is close to official, and there has not been much more than speculation and rumors about a Garrett trade, but this comment from Monken is a concerning one that seems to imply the superstar edge rusher could be on the move this offseason.
