Browns' Myles Garrett can break NFL sack record by making Aaron Rodgers history

The Cleveland Browns, in Week 17, while they've been eliminated from playoff contention long ago and are just 3-12 on the year, have plenty of reason to tune into their performance this week.

Facing the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Browns can extend the AFC North division one more week for a winner-takes-all Week 18 Steelers-Baltimore Ravens matchup. If such a future comes to pass, it will likely coincide with Myles Garrett breaking the NFL sack record.

He needs just one more sack, and facing Aaron Rodgers, he not only could make NFL history, but he could also make his own personal history against Rodgers this week.

Myles Garrett aiming for NFL sack history, Aaron Rodgers' history

Zac Jackson of The Athletic highlights that Garrett is chasing more than the NFL sack record in Week 17, as a sack of Rodgers wouldn't just break the NFL sack record; he would be sacking Rodgers for the first time.

Across Garrett's Hall of Fame NFL career so far, he's sacked plenty of quarterbacks, including Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson 11 times.

He's also gotten home on Russell Wilson six times, Justin Fields 5.5 times, Drake Maye five times (all in one game this season), and even Ben Rothlisberger five times.

But he's never sacked Rodgers in his NFL career. While it won't be easy today to get home on Rodgers, the 41-year-old quarterback isn't as mobile as he once was, and the Browns defense should give Garrett a few good chances to break the sack record.

Just one sack would give Garrett the NFL sack record, and it would also be the first time he's sacked Rodgers in his NFL career.

The parallels with Michael Strahan's sacking of Brett Favre for the NFL record, to Garrett's sacking of Rodgers for the record isn't lost, but it would be extra special for Garrett.

Not only would the Browns pass rusher break NFL history, but he could also lay claim to Rodgers as one of the many quarterbacks he's sacked in a Hall of Fame career.
