Browns fans might not like predicted QB battle winner

1 hour ago 2

Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken has made it clear this offseason that the best quarterback will win the starting job.

For most, it's down to Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson, with several analysts picking Watson as the winner simply because of his contract and the fact that Cleveland wants some return on its embarrassing investment.

But OTAs and training camp will see Sanders and Watson go head-to-head to impress Monken enough to be the starter in 2026.

However, who could it be?

Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport thinks Watson will emerge victorious.

"At this point, many Browns fans simply want the Watson era, which has been mired in controversy and disappointment, to be over," Davenport wrote. "But Monken had no part in any of that mess; his job is to win games in 2026.

"And if Watson is healthy, he gives the Browns the best chance to do that. It's been a while, but Watson has shown that he can be a capable NFL starter. Sanders gave no such indication as a rookie."

Is Watson the right choice?

It depends on who you ask.

Watson has shown he can be "that" guy, however that was years ago now, and coming off two Achilles injuries, what sort of player will he be?

As for Sanders, he showed promise last season, but there were also some poor moments; he's a rookie, so that's expected.

If Watson does get the nod to be a starter, I'd imagine he'll be on thin ice as far as performances. Meaning it won't take much for Monken to make a switch.

We know what Watson is as a quarterback at this stage of his career, but Sanders remains an enigma.

Is there a right choice for Monken? Likely not, as you won't please everyone regardless of the decision he makes.
