Browns announce well-deserved Nick Chubb news amid retirement plan

The Cleveland Browns haven't had much to cheer for in some time, as the Deshaun Watson era has been a complete disaster.

While their brief playoff run a few years ago was fun, for the most part, things have gone wrong for the Browns. But, that doesn't mean they haven't had some great individual players come through their organization during that time.

One of those players was Nick Chubb, who recently announced his plan to retire from the NFL this offseason. Amid his retirement plans, the Browns announced that Chubb will be signing a one-day contract with Cleveland to retire as a Brown.

Mary Kat Cabot of Cleveland.com shared that "Nick Chubb is signing a one-day contract with the Browns and retiring Thursday as a Brown, the club announced on its in-house radio show on Thursday."

Chubb's retirement is a shame, as he's only 30 years old and was one of the league's best runners for a long time. But a brutal leg injury derailed his career, and he was never the same again.

During his eight-year NFL career, Chubb played seven seasons with the Browns, suiting up for one year with the Texans in 2025.

He has 7,349 rushing yards and 54 rushing touchdowns in 100 games in his NFL career; 6,843 yards and 51 touchdowns have come with the Browns in 85 games played.

Chubb is third on the Browns' all-time rushing leaderboard in both yards and touchdowns. Only Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly in franchise history can really compare to what Chubb did during his NFL career with the Browns.

The 30-year-old is retiring from the NFL after eight years, and he will get to do so with the franchise that drafted him No. 35 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft this weekend.

He's signing a one-day contract with the Browns, will retire as a member of the franchise, and will be honored during the Browns' home opener in Week 3 against the Carolina Panthers.

He more than deserves this honor from the Browns, and during the 2026 home opener, he'll get a celebration in his honor for an incredible all-time great career with the Browns.
