Brooks Koepka was in ‘complete panic’ over Scottish Open withdrawal confusion

Brooks Koepka was panicking. It was Sunday, and he had little idea what to do.

While Koepka thought he was on the list for the Genesis Scottish Open, he was instead listed as a withdrawal from the event, as his name was missing from the field for an unknown reason.

Though it was an accident and the five-time major winner will be participating in the Open after receiving a sponsor’s invitation, he was lost in the moment.

Brooks Koepka is set to make his Genesis Scottish Open debut at the Renaissance Club, but last week there was some confusion after he was listed as a WD. He had a fun back and forth about it with Doug Ferguson in his presser:

“Yeah, there was a bit of a panic, I guess, on Sunday,” Koepka told reporters. “I called my agent, Blake Smith, in a bit of a panic. Because I got a few text messages that I had withdrawn, and then I went on the — what do we call it, like the PGA Tour, our little app.”

“Probably first time I used it (the app) in a while, since it got downloaded in my phone. I didn’t see any name, either, and I was in a little bit of panic,” he added. “I knew (my agent) was out in Vegas. It’s 7 a.m. in Vegas. Probably not going to reach anybody.”

“There was a few, probably two hours of complete panic of what had gone on. I couldn’t figure it out.”

Koepka withdrew from last month’s RBC Canadian Open with a hand injury in the third round, but still has six top-20 finishes this season.

His appearance in the Scottish Open continues his transition from LIV Golf, and will be the first time he’s partaking in the event since 2015. It’ll also be his debut at the Renaissance Club.

Koepka is currently 81st on the FedEx Cup Standings and is in the hunt for his second top 10 of the year.

After the Scottish Open, he’s set to participate in The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale — as long as his name remains on the list, that is.
