Though the release of the full 2025 NFL schedule is still a couple of nights away, one game has become official for the Denver Broncos.
The NFL has released part of its schedule for Black Friday and Christmas Day and the Denver Broncos, as predicted, will play the Kansas City Chiefs in the nightcap of a tripleheader on the holiday.
It could be a huge game in the landscape of the AFC West and the conference as a whole as the Broncos figure to push the Chiefs this season and potentially put an end to their long-standing stranglehold on the division. It will also take place at Arrowhead Stadium, returning the Broncos to the scene of their most heartbreaking loss last season.
— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) November 10, 2024The Broncos and the millions inside Broncos Country have not forgotten that blocked field goal. It was going to be the best moment of Bo Nix's rookie season, but it was spoiled, and a sour taste still stands in the mouth of the organization.
Denver has lost its last nine games at Arrowhead Stadium, having not won a game there since September 2015. The Broncos have also played the Chiefs at Arrowhead on Christmas one time before. That game took place in 2016 and it went sideways quickly for the Broncos as Tyreek Hill had a 70-yard touchdown and Travis Kelce scored on an 80-yard touchdown all in the first quarter.
The Chiefs went on to a 33-10 win that put a massive dent in the Broncos' playoff plans that season. The Broncos have played three other times on Christmas Day.
Denver Broncos Christmas Day history
Date | Opponent | Stadium | Result |
12/25/1999 | Detroit Lions | Pontiac Silverdome | W, 17-7 |
12/25/2004 | Tennessee Titans | The Coliseum | W, 37-16 |
12/25/2016 | Kansas City Chiefs | Arrowhead Stadium | L, 33-10 |
12/25/2022 | Los Angeles Rams | SoFi Stadium | L, 51-14 |
The Broncos have never played at home on Christmas and have a 2-2 record on the holiday. Following their blowout loss to the Rams in 2022, head coach Nathaniel Hackett was fired the next day, becoming just the fourth head coach in NFL history to be fired before the end of his first season with a team.
This year's game against the Chiefs will be streamed on Amazon Prime with kickoff scheduled for 6:15 pm MST.
