The Denver Broncos were already a team on the rise following a successful 2024 season that saw them win 10 games and return to the playoffs. But with the moves the team has made in the offseason, they are rising in the ranks of contenders.
Josh Edwards of CBS Sports recently took a look at the 10 best offseasons in the league, considering every move that was made. He noted that the additions made by the Philadelphia Eagles last year led to a Super Bowl victory.
Edwards loved what the Broncos did and put them on No. 4 on his list.
"Head coach Sean Payton sat down after the season and methodically built out his offseason shopping list. Tight end, running back, linebacker and safety were all among the positions checked off by the leader of the surprising 2024 contender. The order in which those needs were addressed may not have lined up with expectation, but Evan Engram, J.K. Dobbins, RJ Harvey, Talanoa Hufanga and Dre Greenlaw occupy those roles.
As a result, Payton has his sights on a bigger prize in Year 2 of Bo Nix's career", wrote Edwards.
There is no doubt that the Broncos made some aggressive moves in free agency that, at least on paper, made the team a lot better. Edwards covers each of those, but the hiring of Darren Rizzi as special teams coach is one that should not go unnoticed.
The Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots and Chicago Bears were the only teams ranked above Denver on this list, meaning the Broncos had the best offseason of last year's AFC playoff teams, at least according to Edwards. Broncos Country will not hope that turns into even more success on the field.
