The San Francisco 49ers will continue with Mac Jones as their starting quarterback heading into Sunday's showdown against the New York Giants. According to the team's official injury report, Brock Purdy is listed as questionable for this Week 9 game while he continues to recover from his toe injury.

"If Purdy's toe was that bad, he should have been put on IR right away, not travel with team and stay off his feet," another fan stated.

"Might as well keep him as the starter all season and let Brock get fully healthy, just my opinion. Brock seems to be more hurt than what they are saying," this fan commented.

Back in May, the 49ers provided Purdy with a five-year extension worth $256 million. In March, they signed Mac Jones to a two-year, $7 million deal as Purdy's backup on the quarterback depth chart.

Unfortunately, things took a different turn for Kyle Shanahan's team after Purdy injured his toe during their season opener against the Seahawks. He returned in Week 4's loss against the Jaguars, but unfortunately reaggravated his injury. Thus, the team decided to name Mac Jones as the QB1 while Purdy recovers.

Jones has been decent on the field for the 49ers. Heading into Week 9, he's tallied 1,597 yards and eight TDs passing while helping the team to a 5-3 record.

NFL analyst Chase Senior has high praise for Mac Jones

After the 49ers named Jones as their Week 9 starting quarterback, analyst Chase Senior shared his thoughts on the Pro Bowler's journey with the team so far this season.

"And if you went into the 2025 season, and I told you that basically by the end of October, early November that Mac Jones would have started seven games for the Niners, a lot of us would have probably said, 'Season over.'" Senor said in a clip shared on X on Friday. "But because he's played so well behind the horrible offensive line which hasn't done him any favors, the Niners are right in the thick of things in the NFC and in the NFC West. ... What a job he's done. What a signing he's been for the Niners."

Jones was considered day-to-day after he suffered a knee contusion during last week's loss to the Texans. However, it looks like the quarterback is well enough to start his seventh game for Kyle Shanahan's team.

The 49ers vs Giants showdown kicks off at 1 p.m. ET.
