The San Francisco 49ers entered Sunday night's game looking to stay alive in both the race for the No. 1 seed and the NFC West division title.
With that in mind, the game couldn't have started off any worse for San Francisco. After receiving the kick-off to begin the game, Brock Purdy's first pass was tipped, intercepted and returned for a touchdown, giving the Chicago Bears an early first quarter lead.
However, Purdy made no mistakes after that.
Purdy, Christian McCaffrey and the 49ers offense marched down the field and scored four first half touchdowns (two of which Purdy ran in himself), leading 28-21 at the break despite allowing the defensive score.
More of the same continued in the second half, as San Francisco scored two more touchdowns on passes to Kyle Juszczyk and Jauan Jennings.
Although Caleb Williams and the Bears nearly put together a game-winning drive, they were stopped at second and goal from the two-yard line as time expired.
The performance made history for Purdy, as he became the first 49ers quarterback since 2003 (Jeff Garcia) to throw for three or more touchdowns and rush for two or more.
With the win, San Francisco stayed alive in the division race and will face the Seattle Seahawks at home next week with a chance to steal the No. 1 seed in the conference, despite trailing the Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams for the majority of the year.
That said, a loss could drop them as far back as fifth or sixth, depending on how the Rams finish the year.
