Mr. Irrelevant is now the highest-paid player in 49ers history.
After months of speculation about how the team would approach his contract, Brock Purdy has agreed to a five-year, $265 million extension with San Francisco, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
The deal makes him the seventh highest-paid player in the NFL, tied with Lions quarterback Jared Goff. Purdy was entering the final year of his rookie contract and was set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season.

The 49ers front office has reiterated throughout the offseason that Purdy is their franchise quarterback, despite him posting the worst statistical season of his career in 2024-25. He led San Francisco to the Super Bowl in 2024, where the 49ers fell 25-22 to the Chiefs in overtime, in his first year as the full-time starter.
Here's what to know about Purdy's new deal to remain in San Francisco for the foreseeable future.

Brock Purdy contract details
Purdy picked an inopportune time to have a relatively down season, but he will still be paid handsomely on this new deal, a five-year, $265 million contract with $181 million guaranteed. Purdy's average annual value of $53 million ranks seventh among NFL quarterbacks and players.
The 49ers already have many of their stars signed to high-priced contracts (including Nick Bosa, Christian McCaffrey, and Brandon Aiyuk), but they were still inclined to get a deal done with the 25-year-old Purdy this offseason, putting their quarterback of the future in place before prices for the position increase even more.
Both Purdy and the 49ers had also said they wanted to avoid a holdout situation similar to what they experienced with Aiyuk last offseason.
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported on May 18 that Purdy also received a full no trade clause as part of his new contract.
As part of his five-year, $265-million extension, #49ers QB Brock Purdy received a full no-trade clause for the duration of the deal, sources tell The Insiders.

Brock Purdy age
Purdy was born Dec. 27, 1999, meaning he just finished his age-25 season. He will turn 26 near the end of next season.
Purdy continues a recent trend of quarterbacks signing large extensions heading into the final year of their rookie contracts. Last offseason, the Eagles inked Jalen Hurts to a five-year, $255 million extension, and the Jaguars signed Trevor Lawrence to a five-year, $275 million extension.
Purdy's new contract with San Francisco will take him through his age-30 season.
Brock Purdy career earnings
According to Spotrac, Purdy has earned a total of $2,885,346 throughout his NFL career. His previous yearly salaries were all less than a million dollars after he was the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Purdy was set to make $5.3 million in 2025-26, and he could have been franchise tagged for up to $41 million in 2026-27 and up to $51 million in 2027-28. By signing this extension, Purdy guarantees himself $181 million over the next five seasons.
Brock Purdy stats
Purdy has been one of the more mercurial statistical quarterbacks in the NFL since entering the league, and debates have always existed about whether he is simply a product of his offensive system or his supporting cast.
He took over for an injured Jimmy Garoppolo in a Week 13 game against the Dolphins and for the rest of the season, Purdy played terrific football, posting a 67.1% completion percentage and leading the 49ers to the NFC championship game.
Purdy was even better in his first year as the full-time starter in 2023-24, logging a 69.4% completion percentage with 31 touchdowns and leading the league in QBR with a 72.8.
In 2024, however, Purdy struggled, relatively speaking, for the first time in his career. He still posted a respectable 65.9% completion percentage, but he threw for just 20 touchdowns — an 11-TD decline from the previous season. Injuries to his WR corps and RB Christian McCaffrey undoubtedly played a role in that, but Purdy couldn't get the Niners over the hump in several close games.
Here's a look at Purdy's career numbers:
