A pilot reportedly spent two hours and 30 minutes flying via a route that made the likeness of the Grinch in the air. The route was traced through data from Flightradar24.
On Christmas Eve (December 24), images of the route went viral online, which showed a Canadian pilot, Dimitri Neonakis, covering a certain distance to form the likeness of the Grinch in the air. The aircraft was a Cirrus SR22, which travelled an up-and-down route to and from Canada's Halifax Stanfield International Airport.
Fans took to X to react to the images of the Grinch ahead of Christmas. One X user jokingly wrote:
"Bro turned aviation into fan art."@FearedBuck Bro turned aviation into fan art
Some of the other reactions were as follows:
@FearedBuck I struggle to commit to 10 minutes of focus, and this pilot committed to 150. I feel personally att@cked and inspired at the same time
@FearedBuck could've done this with AI in 30 seconds
@FearedBuck I am more surprised that it only took two hours
Some other reactions were as follows:
@FearedBuck Bro said Christmas spirit > fuel costs
@FearedBuck That’s next-level holiday spirit Turning a flight path into the Grinch and spending 2.5 hours to do it is equal parts skill, patience, and pure Christmas mischief
@FearedBuck bro wasted 2 hrs of his life drawing the Grinch in the sky😭
For those unaware, the Grinch is a popular fictional character originally created by Dr Seuss in his children's book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!. The character is known for hating the idea of Christmas and the joy associated with it, and how he changes his mind over the course of the holiday season after meeting a young girl named Cindy Lou.
The story and the lone character have been adapted into several films and shows over the years, becoming synonymous with Christmas and the holiday season and an integral part of pop culture lore.
Another pilot created the Grinch on air through a different route ahead of Christmas
Philadelphia Eagles v Detroit Lions - Source: GettyFlightradar24's official website also notes another pilot's artistic merit, as Dimitri Neonakis was not the only one to achieve the feat of drawing the popular Christmas character in the air. The first flight reportedly also departed from Canada, from the Wood Country Airport of Bowling Green, Ohio. It was a Piper PA-28-140.
The design created by this pilot features the animated character seemingly walking up the stairs, while Neonakis' design featured him standing with his hands on his waist in an iconic pose he is usually seen in. However, the trademark pose and hat are visible in both designs.
The flight from Ohio took off on December 21, taking three hours and six minutes to complete the drawing. The average altitude throughout the journey was around 6000 feet. Meanwhile, the second flight took off on December 16 and flew at a mean height of 2000 feet, creating the "straight-back-hands-resting-defiantly-by-the-waist" pose for the character. The drawing also covered details such as the character's eyes and nose, which the first drawing lacked.
When Taylor Momsen's Cindy reunited with Jim Carrey's Grinch
Over the years, the Grinch has become an integral part of pop culture and symbolic of Christmas. One of Dr Seuss's original tale's most iconic adaptations remains the 2000 film, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It starred Jim Carrey in the titular green monster role, while child actor Taylor Momsen played Cindy Lou, a young girl who changes the protagonist's mind about Christmas.
In a December 5 interview with PEOPLE at iHeartRadio 102.7 KIIS FM’s Jingle Ball, Taylor Momsen shared her experience of reuniting with Jim Carrey after 25 years since the film's release.
"The entire experience was absolutely insane, kismet, universally aligned, mind-blowing and amazing. Just seeing him again was the most wonderful thing that could have possibly happened. The crazy thing is that he was the same guy. Like, I didn’t know what to expect because it’s been 25 years," Momsen said. She continued:
"When we actually saw each other and hugged and, you know, embraced, it was like this overwhelming, overwhelmingly warm feeling of 'I know you like that.' He felt like home to me is what I keep saying, and it’s just the most accurate way to describe it. It was amazing."Jim Carrey and Taylor Momsen reunited at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Momsen performed with her band, Soundgarden, while Carrey introduced the band.
