Brian Thomas Jr. trade rumor leads to emphatic statement from Jacksonville Jaguars

3 hours ago 2

There was a rumor floating around that the Jacksonville Jaguars are listening to calls for wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., but the team has since publicly come out and denied any interest in moving the former first-round pick.

The rumor came from The Athletic's Dianna Russini, although she did point out that a Thomas trade was "highly unlikely" and that the Jags were only "listening on calls."

"The Jaguars are listening on calls for WR Brian Thomas Jr., even if a move feels highly unlikely," Russini reported on Saturday.

Of course, listening to calls and actually wanting to move a player are two different things. NFL general managers will also take the call, even if they don't intend on trading a player.

Just to make things completely clear, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen emphatically stated there is no truth to the idea that Jacksonville would move Thomas.

"We have no plans on moving Brian Thomas Jr. at all," Coen said, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

It would make zero sense for the Jaguars to trade Thomas.

It's true he has taken a step back in 2025, but he also showed elite potential last year and it would be absolutely foolish to bail on him now — and that's especially true with the Jags having playoff hopes and no adequate replacement on the roster.

If Thomas were to hit the trade block, suitors would likely line up for his services. He has true No. 1 wide receiver potential and is on the cheap rookie contract for the next three seasons (including the fifth-year option) after this one.

While it would be fun to see Thomas get traded to a more potent offense, we would not hold our breath for something like that to happen.
