Brian Schottenheimer reveals why he's confident in Cowboys turnaround

11 hours ago 3

The Dallas Cowboys sit at 3-4-1 after being blown off the field 44-24 by the Denver Broncos in a game that reset the bar for Brian Schottenheimer's team in terms of how people perceive them.

Coming into the game, Dallas had a chance, but it was evident early that, with the defense giving up big plays at will and the offense, which usually saves the defense's bacon, not in its groove, this was going to be a long day.

And a long one it was.

Another 40+ points given up, Dak Prescott threw multiple interceptions, and the defense again proved that it is simply not good enough under Matt Eberflus.

Granted, we are only eight weeks in, so things can turn around (can't they?), but what gives Schottenheimer confidence that this ship, which is being battered by stormy seas, can steady itself and find calmer waters?

“Start with the people, the type of guys we have in the locker room,” Schottenheimer said. “Your captains, the leaders, from top to bottom. CeeDee [Lamb], Dak [Prescott], Donovan Wilson, Osa [Odighizuwa], C.J. [Goodwin], Brandon [Aubrey], and there's a thousand more. Talked about this from the beginning, the adversity was going to come. The adversity is here.”

It's gut-check time in Dallas

Some were on the fence about Dallas being a playoff team in 2025 before the season started —now? The Cowboys don't look like a playoff team, with the offense having to be perfect just to stay close.

And when they aren't, you see what happens.

Schottenheimer is confident in a turnaround due to the leaders he mentioned. Well, it will be on those select few to bring this locker room together because Schotty is right, adversity is here, and that can sink a ship faster than anything as players go into self-preservation mode.

That can't happen here.

The Cowboys are sinking into the depths, and we aren't even in November yet, but can the locker-room leaders plug the holes long enough for solutions to be made?

If the season is to stay alive, they have to.
