Brewers' Tarik Skubal trade hopes get 'must-have' update to compete with Dodgers

This may be the way the Milwaukee Brewers dethrone the Los Angeles Dodgers. 

To prevent the Dodgers from winning a third consecutive World Series title, the Brewers will first turn to their ace, Jacob Misiorowski. 

The Brewers' No. 2 starter in the postseason may not be on the roster. They are one of the many clubs who could target back-to-back AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers. 

Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer tabbed Milwaukee as a top-five landing spot for Skubal, who has a 2.70 ERA and 3.0 bWAR in 15 starts this season.

"Skubal and Misiorowski would form a basically unbeatable 1-2 punch, and that may be what Milwaukee needs to get past those pesky Dodgers," Rymer wrote.

"It's not as if they're going to homer their way—their 98 long balls rank last in MLB—to the World Series, so simply not allowing runs is the next-best strategy."

Milwaukee was easily swept in last year's NLCS by the Dodgers. Sending Misiorowski and Skubal to the mound for the first two games of a postseason series could give them the advantage this time around. 

However, there will be competition for Skubal. The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal wrote Tuesday that several clubs will approach the Tigers in preliminary trade discussions. 

Besides the Brewers, Rosenthal listed the Dodgers, New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, and Tampa Bay Rays as the five clubs expected to inquire about Skubal's services.
