Brewers should cash in on their Mets connection to land a 27-homer threat

Despite being crowned the National League Central champions for three straight years, winning it a fourth time could prove to be difficult for the Milwaukee Brewers. They have a target on their backs, and the rest of the NL Central teams are tired of their domination.

The Chicago Cubs went out and were involved in a ton of high-profile moves over the offseason, while Milwaukee, for the most part, got worse.

The Cubs added guys like Edward Cabrera and Alex Bregman, while Milwaukee will go into the new season without its ace, Freddy Peralta, who they traded to the New York Mets

Brewers should cash in on their Mets connection to land a 27-homer threat

The Brewers are coming into the season with an offense that relies heavily on speed and elite on-base skills rather than raw power. While they have some power options available, it would not hurt for the team to add another.

With their connection to the Mets in an earlier trade, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter suggests that the Brewers see what it would take the Mets to part ways with Mark Vientos.

"This is probably just a case of wishcasting, but it does feel like the Brewers need more power. They only hit 166 home runs last year, and that's not counting when they got out-homered in both of their playoff series. Given Milwaukee's tight payroll, it's crucial that Vientos (who homered 27 times in 2024) isn't eligible for arbitration until next year. There's also familiarity between these front offices, which has already come into play once this offseason."

Acquiring Vientos would give Milwaukee some much-needed power from the right side, and it would free up Luis Rengifo to be used as a utility option. And with their tight pockets, adding a player who isn't arbitration eligible until 2027 fits their budget.
