Brewers outfielder retires from baseball, going to play college football at SMU

Jordyn Adams was the No. 3 ranked wide receiver in his recruiting class, directly between Amon-Ra St. Brown and Ja'Marr Chase.

Those two guys have gone on to have brilliant NFL careers already.

Adams, meanwhile, was playing professional baseball. He was a first-round pick of the Los Angeles Angels, then spent time in the organizations of the Baltimore Orioles and Milwaukee Brewers.

After scuffling at Double-A and Triple-A to begin the 2026 season, though, Adams has retired.

He ends his baseball career with 79 MLB at bats and one big league home run.

And now he appears to be coming back to football.

Adams' Instagram bio suggests he's going to be joining SMU -- although to be fair, it's unclear in what capacity he'll be going to the Mustangs.

Eligibility has gotten a lot more murky in recent years, so Adams probably could take to the gridiron if he wanted. There's been crossover between minor league baseball and college football for a long time, and Adams only got a brief cup of coffee in the major leagues.

Adams is 26 years old (turning 27 in October), so if he is indeed playing, he'll be a older than pretty much all his teammates.

It's still an interesting story, the former top receiver prospect who gave up football to play baseball but is now going full circle back to his other sport. Whatever happens from here, it's cool that Adams is giving football another chance.
