The Milwaukee Brewers are facing off against the Tampa Bay Rays in the MLB World Series. With a realistic chance of winning their first-ever World Series, all of the focus is on the present, not the future.
But, the reason why the Brewers have been able to get to the World Series is the shrewd business they conduct. Milwaukee isn't afraid of making controversial moves, especially when it comes to trades, if it's for the betterment of the franchise.
MLB insider Robert Murray of Fansided.com highlighted another player who could be on the move, as beloved catcher Williams Contreras is a name to watch this offseason on the trade block.
Williams Contreras tabbed as trade candidate for Brewers
"Contreras will be entering the last year of his deal in 2027, and with so many teams needing catching, he will surely draw trade interest," Murray writes.
Contreras, like Freddy Peralta, Corbin Burnes, Josh Hader, and Devin Williams before him, could be traded this offseason heading into the final year of his deal.
It worked out great with Peralta, and some of those other moves netted some valuable players as well. Milwaukee isn't afraid of trading a beloved player if it helps the team long-term.
Unfortunately, that might be the case this upcoming offseason. Even if the Brewers wind up winning the World Series and Contreras plays a huge role, he could still be traded.

Teams around baseball need catching help, and the Brewers could land a massive haul for even just one year of Contreras in a trade.
Whether it's a combination of prospects or big-league talent, the Brewers are sure to get some strong offers from clubs interested in acquiring Contreras, especially if they make him available.
This trade update from Murray is a brutal reality check for the Brewers fanbase, as even though they might not ever want to see Contreras go, this franchise has shown time and time again that they're willing to trade valuable players in the final year of their deal.
Will Contreras be different and sign an extension? It remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: Contreras isn't locked into a future with the Brewers once the 2026 MLB World Series comes to a close, even if he's a key reason why they win it all.
