Braves trade proposal ships Marcell Ozuna to AL East squad in 1-for-1 swap

The Atlanta Braves' season is all but a lost cause, and with Ronald Acuña Jr. back on the injured list, the focus may be on next year. They may not have a fire sale, but they could move some pending free agents.

Marcell Ozuna is the Braves player most likely to be traded. He is going to be a free agent after the season, has not had his best season and has already seen his playing time decrease. He can still be of value to a contender in search of some power. Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter suggested the Braves trade Ozuna to the Toronto Blue Jays in this one-for-one swap:

  • Braves receive: SS Josh Kasevich (Blue Jays No. 11 prospect)
  • Blue Jays receive: DH Marcell Ozuna

"Kasevich hit .296/.348/.385 with 28 doubles, six home runs, 64 RBI and 13 steals during the 2024 season, but a back injury has limited him to just eight games this year," wrote Reuter. "With a 55-grade hit tool and plus defensive tools, he has starting shortstop upside, albeit with limited impact potential on offense given his lack of power."

Ozuna is slashing .236/.364/.403 on the season. He has 15 home runs, which is a down year by his standards, but he could still be a solid addition for the Blue Jays.

His .767 OPS would be a jolt for the Blue Jays' offense. George Springer would see more time in the outfield, but with Dalton Varsho and Anthony Santander both sidelined, adding Ozuna's bat to the lineup would help the team maintain their American League East lead.
