Braves trade prediction lands 3X all-star to fill huge positional need

The Atlanta Braves have already been active in the MLB news world over the last few days. Yesterday, they announced that Walt Weiss will be the team's next manager, and it was also reported that shortstop Ha-Seong Kim will be opting out of his current deal and test free agency.

Now that MLB's hot stove season is here, this is the time for Atlanta's front office to get back to its roots and make meaningful signings or trades that will translate into more success in 2026.

Braves predicted to make trade for the Rangers' Marcus Semien

The Atlanta Braves desperately need an update at shortstop. It took the team 137 games in 2025 to get a home run from a shortstop on the roster.

Nick Allen is likely out as the starter, and in a recent trade predictions piece by Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter, the Braves are predicted to trade for the Texas Rangers' Marcus Semien.

The Rangers have made it clear they want to cut payroll heading into the 2026 season, and this is a great opportunity to offload Semien and allow the Braves to take on some of his contract. Semien is a three-time All-Star, but battled injuries in 2025, which limited his production. In 127 games, Semien hit .230 with 15 home runs and a 97 OPS+.

Even with the down production, that would still be a huge upgrade for the Braves, who need to plug a massive hole at shortstop. The Braves don't have much to give up in terms of prospect capital, but they could offer a player like Jurickson Profar or Sean Murphy.

If the Braves don't come to terms with Ha-Seong Kim, Semien seems like a logical trade option to help fill the void.
