Braves re-sign $4M seven-year veteran hurler for 4th time in two months with October looming

After another successful weekend against the Philadelphia Phillies, it seems like the Atlanta Braves are going to capture the NL East crown. While nothing is for certain as of now, there is no doubt the team controls its own destiny.

Atlanta is in the midst of trying to end the season on the right note. On Monday morning, the team made a flurry of roster moves. One of them was designating Bailey Falter for assignment.

“The Braves announced this morning that left-hander Bailey Falter has been designated for assignment. The 29-year-old Falter was acquired from the Royals alongside outfielder Lane Thomas prior to the 2026 trade deadline. By agreeing to acquire Falter and some of the remainder on his $3.6MM salary, Atlanta likely lowered the prospect cost of acquiring Thomas,” MLB Trade Rumors’ Steve Adams wrote.

That wasn’t the only move that the Braves made on Monday morning. Atlanta has re-signed Elieser Hernandez once again this season, bringing him back to potentially help in a playoff run.

“Braves have also re-signed RHP Elieser Hernández to a minor league deal. He was DFA'd on September 9,” Braves reporter Grant McAuley wrote.

This is the fourth time that Hernandez has been signed by the Braves just this season. It is a relationship that breaks up but always finds a way back. When he was DFA’d a few days ago, it marked the third time he had been designated for assignment with the Braves.

“The Braves have once again designated right-hander Elieser Hernández for assignment, per a club announcement. It’s the third time he’s been designated for assignment in the past seven weeks,” Adams wrote.

The Braves will likely bring him back up once he is available. Atlanta has a bad tendency to let him throw multiple innings and then dump him the next day.

The hurler has made $4 million in his career. Hernandez has been fairly decent for the Braves this season, which makes it hard to understand why they would continuously let him go. One of these times, Atlanta will not be as lucky to bring him back.
