One of the biggest decisions the Atlanta Braves have to make this offseason is regarding Marcell Ozuna. The Braves' primary DH over the past six seasons is set to become a free agent once the 2026 period opens in a couple weeks.
For the Braves, they would like to put the 2025 season behind them and make amends with their fan base by having a productive offseason. However, in a recent bold prediction, Braves fans would be pretty upset with where Marcell Ozuna may end up landing.
Marcell Ozuna's free agency prediction lands him on New York Mets
Ozuna turns 35 next month, and it's expected that the Braves will not be re-signing him. He saw a dip in production this season, and Atlanta opted to use him as a pinch-hit option later in the season.
In a recent bold predictions piece by Bleacher Report's Tim Kelly, he predicts Ozuna to sign with the Braves' division rival, the New York Mets.
"You know what team would actually make quite a bit of sense for Ozuna on a one-year deal? The Mets. Starling Marte—New York's primary DH this past year—will likely depart in free agency. Even at this stage, Ozuna would be an upgrade over him. "
Ozuna hit .232 this season with 21 home runs in 145 games. He may not be the 40-home run slugger that he was in 2023 and 2024, but he can still provide a team with a great option against left-handed starters. The Mets may also have a lot of production to replace if they are unable to retain Pete Alonso.
