Bournemouth wonderkid to make England debut after World Cup snub

When Thomas Tuchel named his 26-man squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, there were some obvious omissions. One that could be argued would be that of Alex Scott, AFC Bournemouth’s offensive talisman, who was snubbed in the Three Lions’ midfield battery.

If there was a season in which the Cherries’ midfielder would have wanted to submit as a resume for making the team, it would’ve been his 2025-26 campaign, one in which he scored four goals and set up a lone assist across his 39 appearances.

While his numbers in possession are noteworthy, his work out of possession is what has gotten his name linked with some of the bigger teams in the Premier League, as he put up 36 interceptions and won 39 tackles.

Given that Tuchel and the England squad need people to play against during their training sessions, it’s common practice to bring in skillful talents to get experience in the setting, which has been the case for Scott, who was seen departing the Three Lions’ plane in Florida on Tuesday afternoon.

Scott is to see some action

It appears that the 22-year-old isn’t just going to be limited to the training pitch, as it has been reported by BBC’s Sami Mokbel that he’ll make his senior debut for England in the coming days.

“Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is poised to make his England debut in the forthcoming World Cup warm-up games in the United States,” writes Mokbel.

England’s final friendly ahead of the World Cup campaign comes against New Zealand, with the match being slated for Saturday afternoon.
