Boston Red Sox connected to WBC manager if Alex Cora fails this season

The Boston Red Sox heard some heat over the last year or so with skipper Alex Cora, though it doesn’t seem likely that a change is coming anytime in the near future.

If there’s a change soon, there could be some intriguing names out there to take a look at.

Jake Elman of FanSided believes Ian Kinsler could be a potential candidate due to his coaching experience with Team Israel and his former success at the highest level as a player.

Of course, any such discussion begins with Cora's status. While Cora has had success in Boston, the long-term outlook depends heavily on how the team performs moving forward.

“Because lead executive Craig Breslow didn’t hire Cora, it feels increasingly realistic that the two sides might part ways if the Red Sox don’t have a successful 2026 season.

“Kinsler has managed Israel in the last two World Baseball Classics, and he was among the sport’s more respected players during his 15-year career. For what it’s worth, Kinsler played for two of this generation’s more notable managers: Ron Washington and Jim Leyland,” Elman wrote.

Kinsler has some experience playing in Boston, but he only spent a season in the city. He was a 14-year big leaguer who won a World Series and much more throughout his career.

For now, however, the focus is on Cora and whether the Red Sox can deliver the kind of season that most expect them to have.
