The Boston Marathon is gearing up for another installment this year on Patriots' Day, a Massachusetts state holiday.

The competition turns 130 years old in 2026, with competitors traveling from across the globe for their chance to race in the Boston Marathon.

Last year's festivities were won by Kenya in both the men's and women's professional level, with John Korir and Sharon Lokedi winning their respective events. 

Every year in Boston, the marathon becomes a spectacle, with fans throughout the city and its surrounding suburbs flocking to watch the runners fly by their street.

Boston Marathon start times 

The race will kick off with the wheelchair division on Marathon Monday, followed by handcycles & duo participants. From there, the professionals kick off, with the majority of amateur competitors split into waves.

Boston Marathon qualifying times 2026

Qualifying times for the Boston Marathon vary by age, with better times needed for younger competitors. Men aged 18-34 needed times below 2:55:00 to fit this year's qualifying standards, while women and non-binary runners 80 and older needed times below 5:20:00.
