The San Francisco 49ers are entering the 2026 NFL Draft with clear plans to upgrade the defensive line, specifically the edge rusher position, along with adding depth to the defensive backfield and wide receiver rooms.
But the 49ers might also be exploring some trades, specifically about trading away one of their own players. There's a different player who could be dealt during the draft.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the 49ers are expected to see interest in Brandon Aiyuk pick up during the NFL Draft. While there's no telling if he's going to be dealt or not, the door is open for a deal more so than ever.
49ers might draw Aiyuk trade interest during NFL Draft
"... there are plenty more who could be dealt during the upcoming draft," Schefter writes. "Those who could gain interest include Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. ...and 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk."
Aiyuk being named among the players expected to draw trade interest during the upcoming NFL Draft would be some great news for the 49ers.
The two sides are already headed for a split, but the 49ers are hoping to find a trade partner instead of simply releasing him.
While they likely won't be able to land much in return, even if it's a Day 3 pick coming back, it's better than nothing, which would be all they'd get if they cut Aiyuk.

A team like the Washington Commanders might be eyeing Aiyuk to reunite him with Jayden Daniels. Other teams might also have some interest in Aiyuk, including the Philadelphia Eagles, if they want to take a chance on Aiyuk amid the A.J. Brown rumors.
But finding a trade looks likely to be a hurdle. A team might be better off waiting for the 49ers to release him, as Aiyuk isn't someone a team is eager to acquire after his absent 2025 and injury-shortened 2024.
Schefter isn't outright reporting the 49ers will find a trade, but that Aiyuk is a name to watch come the NFL Draft. He won't land Round 1, 2, or 3 value, and likely will be closer to Rounds 6 and 7 instead of 4 and 5 on Day 3.
Aiyuk is a name 49ers fans should keep in mind during the upcoming draft, as some trade traction might lead to a deal in the coming week.
