Boston Blue season 1 episode 9: Jonah’s quest for revenge
Boston Blue season 1 episode 9 features Jonah's breakdown as he learns that Ronan Flaherty, the man who killed his dad, was freed due to a corruption scandal surrounding the district attorney's mishandling of cases. Jonah does not use official policing methods to locate Ronan Flaherty but instead resorts to emotional fixation and calculated maneuvering to find Flaherty, who had just been released from jail.
Jonah fixates on monitoring Flaherty's daily movements in the Bromley-Heath area, where Flaherty resides. He works behind the scenes with other officers to arrange his patrol routes so he can remain in Bromley-Heath without alerting superiors to his presence in the area.
In the beginning, Jonah's primary motivation for stalking Flaherty is to intimidate him, to let him know he is under surveillance. This fixation begins with an earlier confrontation outside the bakery, in which Jonah deliberately waits until his partner Sean is momentarily absent before approaching Flaherty.
After the confrontation, Jonah returns to Bromley-Heath alone despite warnings from both his family and his fellow officers. When gunshots are reported in that area of Bromley-Heath, officers arrive to find Flaherty on the floor, with Jonah standing over him.
Mae and Sarah's role in Boston Blue season 1 episode 9
A still from the show (Image via Instagram/@bostonbluecbs)In Boston Blue season 1 episode 9, a large part of the plot concerns what happens to Mae Silver (the District Attorney) and her daughter, Sarah, in relation to Ronan Flaherty’s release as a result of this new case. After the case is turned over due to the wrongful actions of a former assistant district attorney (ADA), Mae faces the aftermath of her role as a public figure.
The actions that led to the decision to release Flaherty were taken in accordance with the law and ethical conduct; for instance, by firing the former ADA who was involved in the case due to corruption. However, because the court’s review found that the former ADA was involved in multiple cases, including Flaherty’s, it caused a systemic failure.
Sarah, unlike her mother, feels guilty about both Ronan Flaherty (whom she believes was wrongfully released) and the decisions Mae made. Instead of focusing on her own guilt, Sarah feels an overwhelming sense of responsibility to find a lawful way to put Flaherty back in prison.
