Blue Jays make MLB record announcement after Mariners game

The Toronto Blue Jays have been playing decent baseball to start the season, and could be a sneaky team in the American League East. Only two games behind the New York Yankees, the Blue Jays sit at 12-10 and will hope to continue playing the way they have.

While the Blue Jays are a polarizing team, and it's tough to get a feel for where they exactly stand due to some of the question marks on their roster, this team is talented, and if things click, the Blue Jays could be a team to watch out for.

They gave Paxton Schultz an opportunity to pitch at the big league level on Sunday, the first time in his career.

The right-hander has been in the minors since being drafted in the 2019 MLB draft, and even made history for the Blue Jays, with the team announcing that his eight strikeouts tied a Major League Baseball record for the most recorded in a debut by a reliever.

"What a debut," the Blue Jays account posted. "8 strikeouts by Paxton Schultz TIES the MLB record for the MOST in a debut by a reliever!"

If the Blue Jays found a diamond in the rough in the 27-year-old, that'd give them even more ammo in a division where it's needed.

Schultz looked excellent in his debut, and while one game won't determine everything, it was a step in the right direction. Throwing in 4 1/3 innings, he allowed just two hits and zero earned runs, shutting down the Seattle Mariners' lineup.

It's still early in his career, but making MLB history this early on is an awesome accomplishment.
