Blue Jays make disappointing roster move amid Addison Barger's return

The Toronto Blue Jays were faced with a tricky decision this weekend, as the team was getting back Addison Barger from the injured list.

While his return is some good news for the team, their crowded bench made for a difficult choice on which player to send down to the minor leagues.

And as the Blue Jays announced Saturday, they made a disappointing roster move by sending down Yohendrick Pinango to the minors.

"Roster Moves: INF/OF Addison Barger reinstated from the 10-day IL and will be active today. OF Yohendrick Pinango optioned to Triple-A," the Blue Jays announced.

This is a bit of a disappointment for the Blue Jays, as Pinango has been a fun player since being called up recently, and he's been very productive at the plate as well.

He has a .423 batting average with four RBIs this season in 10 games and 26 at-bats. His .906 OPS was more than good enough to keep the 24-year-old rookie outfielder on the big league roster.

However, he's now being sent down to the minor leagues with Barger's return. But there should've been a different player sent back down to the minor leagues.

Davis Schneider has a .127 average and .550 OPS in 55 at-bats this season, and would've been a good player to send down to the minor leagues instead of Pinango.

He had an option for the Blue Jays to head back to the minor leagues, so he would still have been in the organization. He was the one many would've expected to see depart for the minors with Bargers return.

Instead, Pinango is heading back to Triple-A. There could be a reason for this decision, with Toronto looking to get Pinango consistent playing time that he might not have gotten on the MLB roster with Barger back.

It's still a bit disappointing to see Pinango off the MLB roster after his hot start. But, at the end of the day, getting Barger back is a plus for Toronto and should hopefully help the offense going forward.
