The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Atlanta Braves 3-1 on Friday night in a huge win for the series. Despite the struggles the Dodgers have endured over the past week, they still look like the same dangerous team fans have come to expect.
Veteran Miguel Rojas has recently seen significant playing time due to Mookie Betts being sidelined with an injury. Rojas was believed to be considering retirement last season after he was the final player to leave the dugout following the Dodgers’ last home game of the World Series.
“Miguel Rojas stayed in the Dodgers dugout for a few minutes after the Dodgers game 5 loss. He was the last Dodger to leave the dugout,” Dodger Nation’s Doug McKain posted.
Rojas has been a valuable addition for the Dodgers because of the leadership and experience he brings to the clubhouse. During last year’s postseason, Rojas revealed that the 2026 season would likely be the final year of his career.
“I'm 36 years old. It's been a wild ride. I've given it everything I've had in my four years here. Hopefully, I can finish my career here. Because I'm going to retire after next year,” Rojas told McKain.
As Rojas’ career nears its end, he is becoming increasingly focused on the future of the organization. One of the young players he is trying to help develop is Hyeseong Kim, whom Rojas hopes to mentor before his final MLB game.
“We have Hyeseong Kim playing shortstop almost every day for us. I feel like he has the potential to play short. If I can make him better before I go, and before I start the next chapter of my career, that’s going to be one goal of mine,” Rojas said.
The Dodgers clearly believe Kim can develop into an important player for the future, but growth at the major league level takes time. Rojas understands that part of his role is leaving the organization in a better place than he found it, and helping mentor younger players is a major part of that.
It says a lot about Rojas that one of his final goals in baseball is helping make sure Kim develops into a strong everyday shortstop. Rojas has been a special player for the Dodgers, and an even more respected presence inside the clubhouse.
