The Toronto Blue Jays are eyeing some major additions this winter, and their initial moves have shown their willingness to spend big this offseason.
But big additions aren't the only way for the Blue Jays to add to their roster this winter. Toronto's front office could also explore cheaper, dart-throw options to round out the MLB roster.
One such option the Blue Jays have shown interest in, according to Francys Romero of Beisbolfr.com, is former Boston Red Sox top prospect and Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada.
Blue Jays interested in signing Yoan Moncada
"Several teams," Romero reports, "including the Angels, Pirates, White Sox, and Blue Jays, have shown early interest in free-agent third baseman Yoan Moncada, per sources."
The Blue Jays are interested in Moncada, who's spent the majority of his MLB career with the White Sox. He's played in 10 MLB seasons in his big league career, with his most recent coming with the Los Angeles Angels.
He played in 84 games, posted a 0.7 bWAR, and hit .234 with a .783 OPS. He hit 12 home runs, 13 doubles, two triples, and had 35 RBIs to go with 39 runs scored and 58 hits this past season.

Moncada dealt with multiple injuries to his thumb and knee in 2025. But, despite those injuries, he put up a decent season and could become a key contributor in 2026 for the Blue Jays.
With the White Sox, Moncada had his career-year in 2019, when he had 5.1 bWAR and hit .315 with a .915 OPS and was finally reaching the sky-high potential he had before making his MLB debut.
A headliner in the Chris Sale deal heading to Chicago, Moncada has had an interesting MLB career. The Blue Jays could look to add him to the roster, not as a Bo Bichette replacement, but as some extra depth for the roster in 2026.
