Blue Jays 'in the mix' on former Yankees, Dodgers MVP free agent

The Toronto Blue Jays are one of the more active teams this winter, but with the rest of the AL East also showing some strong activity, the Blue Jays are still likely to be involved.

Whether it's in the markets for Bo Bichette or Kyle Tucker, the Blue Jays are not going to slow down just yet. They aren't just going to be interested in those markets, however, as the Blue Jays are active in other talks this winter.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that the Blue Jays are still "in the mix" for a top free agent outfielder, formerly of the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers, in MVP Cody Bellinger.

Blue Jays are in the mix for Cody Bellinger

"The two New York teams seem like the obvious fits for Bellinger," Feinsand writes, "though the Angels, Blue Jays, and Dodgers remain in the mix."

Bellinger is receiving heavy interest from plenty of teams, including the New York Mets, Dodgers, Yankees, and even the Los Angeles Angels.

But the Blue Jays are one of the teams also showing an interest in his services this winter. Signing him would be an interesting move for the Blue Jays.

As the current favorite to sign Tucker this winter, adding Bellinger would mean that either the Blue Jays move on from Tucker due to another team signing him or just backing out of the market, or the Blue Jays are building a superteam.

The most obvious reason why the Blue Jays would get involved in Bellinger this winter, and why they're currently in the mix, is as insurance in case Tucker signs elsewhere.

If Tucker signs a shorter deal with a different club, then the Blue Jays could turn to Bellinger for a long-term contract.

Stealing Bellinger from the Yankees, who likely aren't going to be big spenders this winter other than to keep Bellinger, would be a win-win for Toronto.

Not only would they get a great player in Bellinger, but the Yankees would be left missing one of their best hitters and fielders from 2025.

Bellinger to the Blue Jays is not at the top of the most likely outcomes this winter, but with Toronto still in the mix, and potential for things to get weird, don't count out the Blue Jays just yet.
