The Toronto Blue Jays might have a record under .500 at 37-38 heading into June 19, but they're a team that's still expected to spend at the MLB trade deadline as buyers.
After coming one win from winning the World Series in 2025, the Blue Jays are not going to stand pat or sell unless they're well outside of the playoff hunt by the August 3 trade deadline. But what will this team look to add at the trade deadline?
The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal revealed that the Blue Jays' "ideal fit" at the trade deadline is a player who would bring bad news to fan favorite outfielder Davis Schneider, as this upgrade would be directly replacing him on the roster.
Blue Jays 'ideal' trade deadline need would replace Davis Schneider
"The ideal fit for the Jays is a high-contact average hitter and/or a right-handed hitting outfielder," Rosenthal writes. "...The right-handed-hitting outfielder actually might be the Jays' greater need..."
With the Blue Jays' top trade deadline need being a right-handed hitting outfielder, the current option they have on the MLB roster is the most likely player to be replaced this season.
That's Schneider, the Blue Jays' current righty-hitting outfield option. This season, Schneider has a .167 batting average with three homers, 11 RBIs, and a .647 OPS.

Myles Straw is the other notable right-handed hitting outfielder, but he's been a bit better with a .239 average, though his two homers, nine RBIs, and a .641 OPS this season are lower figures than what Schneider's done in 84 at-bats compared to 117 for Straw.
Every other notable outfield option, Daulton Varsho, Yohendrick Pinango, Nathan Lukes, Addison Barger, and Jesus Sanchez, are left-handed hitters.
With a strong left-handed hitting presence in the outfield, the Blue Jays could use a new right-handed hitter, and Schneider might be the odd-man-out of this group.
The Blue Jays' "ideal" trade deadline need is a right-handed hitting outfielder, and while Straw could be the odd man out, Schneider, who the Blue Jays have already optioned once this season, might be replaced with such a trade this summer.
