Blue Jays get big Kyle Tucker update on timeline for free-agent decision

The Toronto Blue Jays are one of the strongest suitors for free-agent outfielder Kyle Tucker this winter. There's been plenty of rumors, speculation, and updates this offseason on the two's connection.

While the New York Mets are strongly pursuing him, with a ridiculous $50 million per-year offer on the table, the Blue Jays are still viewed as the favorites for Tucker.

But the stressful wait is continuing to drag on. At least, for now. According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Blue Jays are expected to get Tucker's decision on his new team in the next week or so.

"Sometime within the next week," Passan writes, "Tucker is going to decide where he'll play for the foreseeable future..."

This update, that Tucker is planning to make his decision in the next week, is a big one for the Blue Jays, the Mets, and every team in Major League Baseball.

For Toronto, being able to hear Tucker's decision in the next week or so is a significant step for their offseason plans.

If they sign Tucker and get him on a long-term deal, then they'd likely be done with any big additions this winter, pivoting to small moves to round out the roster.

But if they don't get him, and Tucker lands with the Mets or another suitor, then they will need to pivot to alternatives like Cody Bellinger, Bo Bichette, or any other top free agent or trade target.

The goal for the Blue Jays is for Tucker to choose them and their long-term offer, rather than sign the shorter deal with the Mets with the much higher AAV.

While he could make a lot of money in a short amount of time with the Mets deal, he could have a home for life in Toronto if he chooses the Blue Jays.

As every team in the Major Leagues awaits Tucker to choose his new team, the expected timeline for an announcement is soon.

Whether it's with the Blue Jays, Mets, Dodgers, or some other team, Tucker is set to have a new team "within the next week." A Tucker decision is just around the corner, and it will carry massive ramifications for the Blue Jays this winter and into the future.
