Blue Jays' Bo Bichette might have to wait for Alex Bregman to make free agent decision

The Toronto Blue Jays' top free agent this winter is Bo Bichette. He's shown some incredible potential and is one of the hottest names on the market this winter.

But this offseason is not expected to get any faster for Bichette. Despite months of rumors, the market for Bichette is moving slowly and is not likely to ramp up anytime soon.

According to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, the Blue Jays shortstop/second baseman might have to wait and see what Alex Bregman does before he gets to make his free agent decision.

"Bichette's future may be tied directly to what happens with Bregman," Feinsand writes, "as the Blue Jays and Red Sox are in on both players."

Toronto doesn't have to waste a draft pick to sign Bichette, and due to that factor, they might be one of the top landing spots for the middle infielder.

And in the same boat, if the Boston Red Sox re-sign Bregman for a similar reason, then Bichette returning to Toronto makes a lot of sense.

He's one of the more likely free agents to sign a short-term deal, and if that's the case, most teams would not want to lose a draft pick for just one season or two of Bichette.

With the Red Sox and Blue Jays both in the market for Bichette and Bregman, their futures are tied directly to one another.

But, with Bregman more likely to sign first based on this report from Feinsand, Bichette will likely need to wait to see what Bregman does before he makes his free agent decision.

There are plenty of second-base-needy teams around the Major Leagues, and Bichette's market could ramp up in a big way once Bregman signs. But, for now, it looks like the Blue Jays infielder will need to play a waiting game in free agency.
