The Toronto Blue Jays are going to be looking for ways to add more offense this winter and are looking at superstar talent.
Toronto clearly is in the mix for New York Yankees star Juan Soto but he isn't the only player who has been tied to the Blue Jays. Another player who has been floated as a fit is New York Mets star Pete Alonso.
Everything is going to be contingent on Soto. If he decides to go back to the Yankees, then the Mets may bring Alonso back, which could make it tough on the Blue Jays. If Soto were to land with the Mets, then Alonso would be a more likely option.
It seems like the Blue Jays are going to try to land a star slugger this winter and MLB.com's Mark Feinsand listed them among "potential landing spots" for Alonso.
"Alonso's market should be solid, as he's one of the top power bats on the market," Feinsand said. "His chances to return to the Mets probably hinge on what happens with Soto; if the Mets give Soto the $500-600 million deal that is being projected, that may spell the end of Alonso's time in Queens. If he leaves the Mets, I could see the Yankees, (San Francisco Giants), (Seattle Mariners), (Houston Astros) and Blue Jays all being potential landing spots. I actually wrote about Alonso's free agency today, so check it out."
A lineup featuring Alonso and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. would be fantastic for Toronto. The Blue Jays seemingly will be considering all options and Alonso should be near the top of the club's wish list. Alonso is projected to get a $174 million deal. The Blue Jays could afford that, but we will have to see what happens with Soto first.
