Met Gala 2025: Why Jennifer Garner, Zayn Malik & More Are Not Attending

The Met Gala 2025 red carpet ends without one notable couple.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds didn't walk the famed Metropolitan Museum of Art steps in New York City on May 5, opting to stay out of the spotlight amid their ongoing legal battle with the Gossip Girl alum's It Ends With Us costar and director Justin Baldoni. As for the reason the pair—who share kids James, 10, Inez, 8, Betty, 5, and Olin, 2—weren't in attendance at the annual haute couture event? Ryan, 48, and Blake, 37, have yet to share why they skipped the festivities, which were co-chaired this year by A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour

However, it's not the first time the two have missed the charity fundraiser. After all, Ryan and Blake—who has arrived dressed to impress for 10 Met Galas since making her debut in 2008—were absent from last year's "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion"-themed occasion as well.

And while the A Simple Favor star and Marvel actor didn't appear on the red carpet, this year's Met Gala was still a star-studded affair, with celebs including Zendaya, Rihanna, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner all posing for photos on the museum steps.

Plus, Blake hasn't stayed totally out of the public eye since her legal saga with Justin began back in December, when she filed a lawsuit against the Jane the Virgin alum accusing him of sexual harassment and retaliation. (Justin denied the allegations and filed his own defamation countersuit against Blake seeking $400 million, the accusations in which Blake has also denied.)

Last month, Blake stepped out alongside Ryan for the TIME100 Gala in New York, where she was honored as one of TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People of 2025.

And during her speech to accept the honor, the actress spoke out on the responsibility she felt as a woman with a powerful platform.

"How we use that matters," she explained, per footage shared by Variety from the April 24 event. "Who and what we stand up for, and what we stay silent about, what we monetize versus what we actually live, matters."

Blake added, "I have so much to say about the last two years of my life, but tonight is not the forum."
