Bindi Irwin “Tremendously Grateful” for Support Amid Hospitalization
Bindi Irwin is on the mend.
The 26-year-old shared a health update and new photos of herself out of the hospital two weeks after undergoing emergency surgery to treat several conditions, including a ruptured appendix and recurring endometriosis, which prompted her to miss an annual gala celebrating her late father, Crocodile Hunter star Steve Irwin.
"Healing," she wrote on her Instagram May 25. "Thank you for your incredible words of support and kindness. The reason I share my health journey is because more girls and women desperately need answers to their undiagnosed pain. I’ve battled with endometriosis for more than 12 years. This disease is crippling and can make you feel incredibly isolated."
"We need to raise awareness and change the narrative for women's health," continued Bindi, who appears in her new photos standing with an umbrella on a street on a rainy day and posing next to a large tree in a park. "I see you, your pain is real, and you deserve answers and genuine health care."
Her husband Chandler Powell praised the Dancing With the Stars alum in response.
"I’ve said it many times already, but as time goes on I’m even more convinced that you are the strongest person I know," he wrote on Instagram, alongside photos of his wife walking on a street with their daughter Grace Warrior, 4. "Going through everything you have to get on top of your health as well as help others along the way is incredible."
Bindi had initially sought medical attention for a ruptured appendix but ended up having more complex surgery, as it was determined that new endometriosis legions had developed—more than two years after she had more than three dozen and a chocolate cyst excised by a specialist—and needed to be removed, while a preexisting hernia would also be repaired.
"After having a grumbly appendix, I finally had to seek help the day of our Steve Irwin Gala in Las Vegas," Bindi wrote on Instagram May 12, sharing a video of herself from her hospital bed. "I consulted with Dr. [Tamer] Seckin, and we agreed that if I flew to New York, he could also check for endometriosis again."
"You are a warrior in every sense of the word," he continued. "Grace and I are so grateful for you and everything you do."
Bindi's brother Robert Irwin, who was the first to share her health battle, also expressed his support. "Happy to see you on the up and up, Bindi," the upcoming DWTS contestant wrote on Instagram, alongside a selfie of the two. "You face every hurdle head on, take it in your stride and inspire us."
Their mom Terri Irwin commented, "We're a good team!"

The surgery, she said, was a success. "My appendix was removed, along with another 14 lesions (after having 37 endometriosis lesions and a cyst removed two years ago)," Bindi wrote. "I also had a repair to a large hernia I acquired through childbirth four years ago. Thankfully, I am on the road to recovery."
