There's always risk to having a useful, experienced NFL player on the practice squad.

The Buffalo Bills learned that the hard way Wednesday as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed one of the Bills' practice squad guys to their active roster.

The Bucs are bringing in versatile offensive lineman Dan Feeney, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Tampa Bay had an opening because starting right guard Cody Mauch sustained a season-ending injury in Monday night's win over the Texans.

Feeney, who is 31 years old and measures up at 6-foot-4 and 310 pounds, had yet to appear in a regular season game for the Bills.

In an NFL career dating to 2017, Feeney has played 120 games, including 65 starts.

He has spent time with the Chargers, Jets, Bears and Vikings.

Feeney was signed by the Bills on Aug. 4, released on Aug. 26 and signed back to the practice squad on Aug. 27.

He was originally a third-round pick by the Chragers in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Indiana.

Feeney has only been a part time player since leaving the Chargers, for whom he started every game in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Since the beginning of the 2021 season, Feeney has started eight total games, including just one in 2023 with the Bears and none in 2024 with the Vikings, when he spent time as a backup center.

Now, Feeney leaves the Bills' practice squad for a real roster opportunity in Tampa Bay.
