Bills' smart free agency trade key to walking Super Bowl path

1 hour ago 4

The Buffalo Bills needed a No. 1 receiver for Josh Allen, and the franchise moved this offseason quickly to get him one.

Buffalo traded for Chicago Bears weapon DJ Moore, and while the Bills' new weapon wasn't A.J. Brown, as many thought it could be, Moore is still an upgrade on any weapon the Bills have on their roster.

Yes, people have cited the money Buffalo is paying Moore as too much, but the receiver does come to the Bills with a pedigree and the ability to be the sort of difference-maker the offense needs.

And for NFL.com's Matt Okada, the Bills' signing of Moore could be the one that gets them over their playoff hump.

“The Bills have needed a legitimate downfield receiver for years, and GM Brandon Beane made it happen by trading the team's second-round pick for Moore (also getting a fifth-rounder in return),” Okada wrote.

“Allen's passing-yardage totals have dipped since the departure of Stefon Diggs in April of 2024; that figure should jump back up with this move, which could help Buffalo (finally) crest that pesky hill on its road to the Super Bowl.”

Moore move has to work

The Bills' Super Bowl window will be open as long as Josh Allen is upright, but there's no denying the Bills have, so far, wasted his early years, and now that he is entering his prime, the move for Moore has to pay dividends.

While we aren't saying Moore has to put up 1,500 yards and 10 TDs, he has to be the dominant weapon for Allen and be a consistent option in the passing game.

With Khalil Shakir, Tyrell Shavers, Keon Coleman (we think), and Dalton Kincaid as Allen's other weapons, Moore has to rise above them all in production.

Yes, Joe Brady has an "everybody eats" mantra, but there's no denying that Moore has to 'eat" the most in 2026.
