Bills predicted to win out over Patriots, Chiefs in pursuit of All-Pro in free agency

The Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots could all be vying for the same free agents at one particular position this offseason.

That position is wide receiver, where all three teams have a major need.

In Buffalo, the Bills haven't gotten anything close to what they hoped out of Keon Coleman and Joshua Palmer, which leaves the team in a precarious spot at the position.

The Chiefs have two promising young receivers in Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice, but Worthy didn't live up to expectations in 2025 and Rice has off-the-field issues, leaving his future murky.

New England needs more depth behind Stefon Diggs, and there is also a chance that Diggs could get cut given his massive $26.5 million cap hit in 2026.

One player all three teams could have interest in is wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who was cut by the Miami Dolphins recently in a move that was expected.

Sports Illustrated's Conor Orr predicts the Bills, Chiefs and Patriots will all pursue the veteran wideout, but Buffalo will ultimately win out and sign Hill in free agency.

Orr also thinks the Bills will make a play for Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans, who recently stated he would test the free-agent market.

The Bills will edge the Chiefs and Patriots for Tyreek Hill’s services and be in the conversation for Mike Evans.

While I think the chase for Hill will be closer to the post-hype “chase” for Odell Beckham Jr.—less of a drama and more about which team is willing to shell out even the slightest of guarantees—he is good enough to warrant the curiosity of a team on the doorstep. Brandon Beane and new head coach Joe Brady have been on a PR blitz this offseason to counteract the firing of Sean McDermott. Pacifying the fan base by showing interest in a slew of brand-name wide receivers is one of the fastest ways to alter public perception.

The problem with this prediction is that Hill is coming off a season in which he suffered a dislocated knee and multiple torn ligaments, including his ACL.

That means Hill isn't guaranteed to be ready for the start of 2026, and it's not crazy to think he could sit out at least a large chunk of the season.

If Hill's recovery extends into the regular season, no team is going to take a chance on the soon-to-be 32-year-old wideout, no matter how desperate their situation is.

That said, once Hill is healthy and ready to go, we could see any of these three teams make a play for him if the price is right.
