Bills named logical trade partner for Saints' $24 million weapon

The Buffalo Bills are transitioning this offseason. The team has the new head coach for the first time since 2017, and the hope is that a fresh perspective will be what gets the team over the postseason hump.

As far as the roster goes, the Bills weren't the most active team in free agency, but they did make a few notable moves. The team traded for wide receiver D.J. Moore and added Bradley Chubb and CJ Gardner-Johnson to the defense.

If the Bills really want to contend in 2026, though, they may not be done making moves. One writer thinks the Bills would actually be a perfect landing spot for one of the most explosive playmakers of this generation.

Bills floated as landing spot for Alvin Kamara

Alvin Kamara has been with the Saints for his entire career. Over that time, the running back has been one of the best playmakers in the league. However, Kamara had his worst season in 2025, and the Saints added Travis Etienne in free agency, perhaps making the veteran expendable.

Bob Rose of Saints Wire recently came up with six logical destinations for Kamara, and the Bills were included. Regarding this possibility, Rose offered the following:

Buffalo has a good featured back in James Cook, who has three straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons and led the NFL with 1,621 yards on the ground last year. The depth behind Cook, however, is a major question. Davis and Johnson combined for only 475 rushing yards last year and 655 the year before. Kamara would get only limited touches in this offense, but could provide a versatile change of pace behind Cook.

As Rose pointed out, the Bills have a solid RB1, but the depth could be better. Kamara would give the team an explosive option for passing downs and when James Cook needs a breather.

Buffalo also makes sense because Joe Brady and Pete Carmichael, the head coach and offensive coordinator, respectively, have both worked with Kamara in the past.

In 2025, Kamara ended with just 471 rushing yards, 186 receiving yards, and one touchdown. Those numbers aren't up to Kamara's standards, but it would be plenty good enough for an RB2.

Plus, it's also possible that Kamara could bounce back in a new setting. This is the same weapon who has five Pro Bowl selections and an Offensive Rookie of the Year on his resume.

The Saints probably won't even require much in a trade for Kamara. The veteran is on the wrong side of 30 and is also set to be a free agent in 2027. So, essentially, the Bills aren't even risking much, and the reward could be incredible.
